Hi! Welcome to my blog! I am entering the field of illustration, though I think I’ve always been one for the past 26 years. Just got sidetracked with studio painting/artschool, various 9-5 jobs and painting murals for 10 years. Then having three kids and being the stay-at-home parent took up alot of time too! The kids are all in school, I have some quiet time, and I need to work!!
I want to introduce you to this latest sketch by way of another artist, Chance Godwin (https://www.facebook.com/chance.godwin). He is an illustrator/artist in Virginia who created this sketch:
As i looked at it, as a thumbnail, something struck a chord that I needed to draw out and discover. For an hour (I limited myself) I drew in photoshop and came up with this:
So here is where I will start. The elements in this are very strong to me personally, because I have a 5 year old daughter who I worry about constantly, I’ve had many nightmares of being chased, and I live in Portland OR where this scenery is everywhere! That means good references! There’s a story in this piece and I will take it to its end, for my next personal piece. ONWARD!!

Added a half hour of work…now some more story elements. I am not settled on a definite storyline, so I add and subtract elements as I go. A bit of mystery always helps peak interest into what is happening…
SATURDAY JUNE 23
Did a quick color pass, image layer was set to “luminosity” and put color underneath on “normal”
Here is a shot of “in progress”. Detailing a bit of the background and stream, trying to decide what to do with the “guys”.At this point, I am detailing the right third to nail down how far to take the rest of it. I will then move to other sections. The girl needs to be reconsidered (pose). I will investigate further, so she reads as scared and hiding.
